There are many ways to redirect a domain to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain name and you have developed a website through some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party company. It is essential to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and functioning email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and in some cases further configuration may be needed with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting plan through our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia Control Panel offered with each plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have built a website through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to set up a CNAME record with ease. Whether you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to forward a domain name to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to require more than 3 mouse clicks to set up this kind of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you're there, all you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video inside the CP concerning how to create a CNAME record or you can refer to the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
