Each registered domain name has no less than two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a particular hosting company. That way, you've got both your site and your emails managed by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, for example A and MX. The former shows which server deals with the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, when you type a domain in your Internet browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having independent records for the website and the emails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with 2 different providers if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Web Hosting

If you have a shared web hosting account from our company and you would like to move either your site or your e-mails to another service provider, it's going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different email provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a few clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you modify or create isn't going to take more than a few hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is incredibly easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are handled via our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters before, you won't encounter any difficulties if you want to direct your site or emails to another provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you may also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
